The Parks Area Foundation, comprised of Highland Park merchants and neighbors funded a community project that we are truly grateful for....In June of 2002, Artist John W. Neal and partner Ken Tynan finished this 135 foot mural on the side of the Highland Park Hardware building at 6th and Euclid in Des Moines from a collage of past photos of the park. An interesting side note is that John painted himself and his brother into the mural as children seated on the Merry Go Round horses shown in the mural. These pictures can't capture John's wonderful creation and really do not do it the justice it so strongly warrants. It is really amazing to see in person.
